Family homelessness is a growing, yet hidden, crisis in our community. The Salvation Army Austin’s two family shelters, The Austin Shelter for Women and Children and The Rathgeber Center for Families, are at capacity each night and have an extensive waitlist of 500+ parents and children. Notably, 86% of those sheltered in our facilities are women and children, and The Salvation Army is committed to ensuring their experience with homelessness is brief and non-recurring.
